The former Leicester and Celtic boss has decided to leave the club just 7 days before the beginning of the season. It is said that problems with regard to transfer policy, lack of funds and the inevitable sale of James Milner has left only one option for the coach. After deciding that he would not be able to do anything more with Villa, he decided to step down after helping them enter the upper echelons of English Football.
It is sad to see such a brilliant manager forced out of a club because of monetary reasons, but it seems that is the way football is going after transfer policies have been adjusted radically over the past decade. Without any new additions to their squad Villa have also sold Nicky Shorey as he failed to hold down a regular place in the side last term. All the best to Ashley Young, Gabriel Agbonlahor, James Milner and some of the younger players who saw him as a mentor!
