Graeme Smith became the youngest ever South African cricket captain at the tender age of 22, taking over the captaincy reigns from Shaun Pollock. “After a lot of thought, I have decided to step down from the captaincy of the one-day international squad after the 2011 World Cup, and I will stand down as captain of the Twenty20 (T20) international squad with immediate effect,” Smith said at a press conference at the Wanderers Club.
Graeme experienced a good international career as captain of the Proteas for just over 8 years. He refused to mention who would be taking over the reigns of the National side, but has given his full backing to whoever that may be. My money is on A.B. De Villiers and really hope the next Captain can help us win the World Cup. Although he has decided to step down he is fully commited to SA cricket and has pleged to play on for another 5-6 years, if his form is up there to deserve it.
I’ll try pick his brain if I see him at his local Sunday church , Café Caprice in Camps Bay 😉
