As you know it is silly season again and the press is hot with the latest transfer news and saga’s! The latest this morning is about none other than Manchester United legend David Beckham and his hopes of joining Tottenham Hotspur FC. Let’s just say it is not looking good for becks π Damn, would have loved to see him apply his trade in the PL again! Here are some of the top stories from the January transfer window. This period allows teams and players to change sides, during the season in order to pursue greater ventures, or sign players as cover for long term injuries!
David Beckham
David Beckham looked set to join Spurs, after stating he would only ever return to Man Utd if he was ever to ply his trade in the PL again. Now it looks as though the deal may not go through, as Beckham is due to report back for training with American side Los Angeles Galaxy! What a pity, would have loved to see him send those balls in for Crouch, Defoe, Pav and Van Der Vaart...
Steven Pienaar
The South African midfielder who impressed during the 2010 World Cup, continually puts in eye catching performances for Everton. His manager is always full of praise and really relies on Pienaar to boss the left or right side of midfield, week in-week out! It looked as if Spurs were going to land the tricky wide man, although it seems that Chelsea have had a bid accepted for the play maker and that could be the best possible move for him! He is quick, tricky and would add wonders to a Chelsea squad that lacks a lot of imagination at the moment! Go one Stevi, behind you all the way mate!
David Bentley
Bentley (right) impressed on his Birmingham City debut, but is adamant to kick on his form to help the Blues reach the Europa league next season! He is a fine player and should have left Spurs an awfully long time ago. The fact that he has not had game time will affect his performances as well as fitness levels!
Ruud Van Nistelrooy
Van the Man has been putting away goals for fun during his time at Schalke 04 in German Bundesliga. It has been said that Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is keen to bring the best goal poacher on Earth back to the Bernabeu for one last stint. He was by far the most prolific striker United has had this decade and I hope he gets one last 10% cut of a lekker transfer fee for it π
Sergio Busquets
Sergi has become a formidable partner to Xavi and Iniesta in the midfield for Barcelona after breaking into the scene in 2008 at the Nou Camp. He is tricky, has pace and can pass a ball all day long. A number of big clubs are after his signature, with Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson apparently readying an audacious offer for the Barca magician! As a United fan I can only smile about that rumour!
Luis Suarez
The Ajax front man is a killer in front of goal. News has just come in that he has approached the clubs board and is ready to move on and grow his talent. Luis will never be forgotten for his 'hand of the devil' moment which saw our very own Ghana knocked out of the WC! One thing is for sure, I know Fergie is a fan, but am not too sure if he will make a mover for the Uruguayan after young Javier Hernandez has impressed immensely after joining the Club at the start of the season!
Bradley Wright-Phillips
Blackpool boss Ian Holloway has admitted he is considering a second bid to sign Plymouth striker. Bradley, son of ex Arsenal star Ian Wright and brother of Shaun is a raw talent and definitely deserves his chance to impress on the big stage! I think he has the ability and confidence to hols down a place in their starting 11 and could cause PL defenders a problem with his blistering pace!
Andy Carroll
It seems the big front man is going no where soon! Alan Pardew has re-instated that his hardest job this season will be keeping his tight nick squad together! I cannot wait for Andy to break into the England squad and hold down his place alongside Wayne Rooney! Newcastle deserve the talents this kid has to offer, after blooding him since he was a youngster!
Sebastian Larsson
Sebastian Larsson is the cog in the machine for Birmingham City FC. He sees a lot of the ball during games and is a free-kick specialist of note! I think he has one of the best deliveries in the league and many teams can clearly benefit from this kids talents! He is a big game player and has a host of maturity to go with his ability. With the arrival of David Bentley it seems that Aston Villa may take the opportunity to prize the Blues' biggest asset away from them π
Michael Owen
Owen was one of the most exciting talents to join the Premier League when he made his debut for Liverpool all those years ago. United picked him up on a free transfer and it looks like ex United defender Steve Bruce is looking to lure Owen away from his old side. Sunderland are reportedly interested in signing the experienced hit man and could maybe get their man if the price is right. We all know Fergie likes making a profit and Owen will def add some experience to a quality Sunderland outfit!
