Barcelona had no problem forking out €40 million for Spanish Star David Villa. It now appears that the Catalan Club have revealed they are in debt of €77 million after the last financial year!
The sale of stars Yayá Touré to Manchester City and Thierry Henry to MLS side New York Red Bulls has clearly done little to help recover any money that was spent over the off season. A tough season will await one of the biggest clubs in Spanish history as José Mourinho takes the reigns at Real Madrid. We all know he won’t settle for second best and will do everything in his power to steal the La Liga crown from FC Barcelona’s grip.
This problem of huge debt is becoming a massive problem amongst football clubs all over the world, where clubs as big as Manchester United, who are regarded as the biggest brand in football, are said to be in arrears of around £716 million! This has seen multi million £ takeovers become a reality, where business tycoons take the reigns of Clubs with magnificent history and support. Let’s hope this does not ruin the future of European football!
