Cape Town – The City of Cape Town will play host to a World Cup Qualifier after SAFA were extremely impressed by the showing at the recent Norway game in the Cape! The match will take place on March 23, which will see our very own Bafana Bafana take on the Central African Republic at Cape Town Stadium. Mayor Patricia de Lille joked that in a meeting on Tuesday that the city would agree on hosting the game “on condition they Bafana score more goals”. LOL I am sure that won;t impress Gordon too much!
It will cost the City around R3.1 million to host the event, from which they will aim to recover the expenditure via ticket sales, hospitality and concession! But the main thing on my mind has nothing to do with the teams playing or how they are going to make the money back… I was at the Ajax Cape Town vs Moroka Swallow game last week, and to put it lightly, the state of the field was appauling! This was mainly due to the RHCP concert and more so the rugby game between Stormers and Boland the week before. Let’s hope the stadium maintenance guys can sort out it’s state in time, because I doubt many people will rock up if it gets moved out to Athole Stadium…
