In a time before Facebook and Twitter, when no cameras were allowed on the dancefloors, and when Headroom was simply known as APM, a weekly psy-night called Labyrinth was born. From Opium’s o2 Room to The Bang Bang Club, from Fiction to Rhino Room, Labyrinth has been one of Cape Towns most loved indoor psy events, offering the more cautious members of the public “a bridge” to the outdoor festivals. I am glad to say I was there right from the start and used to rock Opium’s 02 Room with all the real naaiers. You know the ones that hardly go to parties anymore (except me), I just can’t seem to to enough?
In just 7 short years Labyrinth has played host to many of the biggest international artists and proudly watched as the careers of local artists have flourished overseas. With the popularity of psy trance catapulting in the last three years, so came the decision in 2011 for Labyrinth to create a new home for itself in Cape Towns super club Trinity, and it is here that we celebrate our 7th Birthday.
Big up to my mate, and, the man who started it all. Dean Fuel, here is a massive salute to you and Wreck for kicking off the weekly psy scene all those years ago… What would I have done after those ruthless night’s drinking trays of R3 brandy shots at Bowls Club without The Lab?
Dean Fuel: “It has been a crazy seven years, but what a journey it has been. Labyrinth has had the privilege or working with some amazing people and brands. We would like to thank each and every one of you…” See you all on Saturday night for one HELL of a party then? With Super Evil [live] 7 Shift on the line up you better bet your ass the pure filth is going to come out!!!
