I entered a competition at the beginning of this month called the Skyy Vodka Global flair challenge. It was a qualifying round for the actual national final the next weekend, 11th September 2010. Basically, they take the top ten entries country wide and put them up against each other, where the top 2 contestants will be sent to Barcelona to represent South Africa. One thing is for sure, we are definitely going to be up against some damn good bartenders.
Round 3:
My cocktail was the best on the night so I thought I would share the recipe with you guys. I also managed to secure my place in the finals for the competition, coming 3rd over-all. It’s quite something for me, seeing as my flair has never been at competition level.
So the drink was re-created and Calvin was there to shoot it for you;
The Pineapple Express:
100ml fresh pine juice
A handful of mint
25ml cherry plum syrup
25ml Skyy Citrus Vodka
25ml spiced rum
12.5ml lemon juice
Just bang all of it in your mixing glass, shake and strain that into a glass filled with ice and enjoy. You can garnish it with a strawberry and mint leaf for nose.
