Berba is on fire...

Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool all collected 3 points with Arsenal the only team on the road. Goals from Rooney, Nani and Berbatov topped off a fine United display, which saw Chris Smalling come on as a substitute to make his senior debut for the club. Torres found the net with a great volley to claim all 3 points for the Reds, whilst Chelsea went to the top of the log after goals from Malouda and Drogba sealed the points. Lampard had a below par performance and was taken off with 20 minutes to go. He will need to up the ante if he wants to keep his place, with the arrival of Brazilian World Cup star Remires now in the fold at Stamford Bridge. Spurs and Man City both lost, which will raise a few eyebrows after heavy summer spending, especially for the latter!

Re-finding his form from Lyon!

In Spain, Barcelona opened their league account with another Lionel Messi masterclass. The little maestro beat the defence and calmly chipped the keeper to open his tally for the season. Real Madrid found it hard to break the deadlock and had to settle for a draw against their bogey side Mallorca. Valencia came back to win 3-1 after going down 1-0 in the opening stages, without the likes of David Villa and David Silva who have both moved on to bigger things! David Villa was also on the score sheet as Barca won by 3 goals and was full of praise for his new squad after the game.

The best talent of his generation?

South Africa put on an awesome display in the rugby international against Australia and special mention must be made of Francois Hougaard, after he capped a fine display with his try and constant enthusiasm throughout the contest. He showed bravery and was involved in a few match winning moments for the Boks. Handling errors saw the Australians making a lot of silly mistakes and had an effect on their overall effectiveness. Francois Steyn proved once again that he can slot kicks from distance as he opened up the lead late on with a 54m penalty.

A little gem at scrum half...

The last day of the Barclay’s Golf Tournament (PGA) saw Matt Kuchar and Martin Laird go head to head in an 18th hole play-off for the title. Laird started the day 3 shots ahead, but consistency was the key for Matt Kuchar. Kuchar saw his second shot hit the green an roll the entire way around the bank to land a mere 2 foot from the hole. This left little doubt that it would be the American who would take home the $1.2m prize money. Laird missed his opportunity when he dropped his lipstick on the 18th green and was forced to take it to sudden-death.

A true cracker of a shot in the play-off won him $1.2m
