This year was my very first TEARS Sleepathon experience and I will 100% be back next year. Not only that, but I will certainly be spending some of my spare time at the TEARS Cattery, who seem to need the awareness a bit more than the dog kennels, which get most of the interest from Sleepathon attendees!
In addition to that, I will definitely be blocking these 3 weeks off on my calendar to lend a helping hand to these poor animals who are all looking for their forever homes. Before I get into the press particulars, I would just like to say a huge thanks to everyone who donated, not only to my cause, but to the bigger picture.
We managed to raise a whopping R485 625 over the 3 weekends, which is R100 000 more than last year!
Sleepathon Supporters Cuddle Better
The 10th Annual Sleepathon took place at TEARS Cattery and Kennel last month and was supported by 245 Sleepathoners (19% more than last year) over the three consecutive Saturdays from the 11th to the 25th of November. The event, which was proudly vegan thanks to our foodie partner, On The Green Side, was especially enjoyed by TEARS shelter pets as they got to experience the best Slumber Party of the year!
THANK YOU to all our amazing Snoozers who collectively fundraised R485 625.00 to date (over R100 000 more than last year!) We will share the final amount once we are certain all donations have been received and accounted for. Congratulations to everyone who took on the task of fundraising – your efforts have made all the difference to TEARS and the vulnerable pets we support! For anyone wanting access to photos from the Sleepathon please email us direct.

Celebrating 25 Years Of Giving
As we approach TEARS’ 25th Anniversary on the 1January 2024, we have successfully rehomed over 22 000 rescued dogs and cats since our launch in 1999. The TEARS 2024 Calendar commemorates 25 years of “second chances” and celebrates our donors, partners, volunteers, and adoption families who have made it possible to change the world one vulnerable pet at a time.
If you’re thinking of giving an end-of-year gift or want to spoil friends and family with a gift that gives back to TEARS then please purchase a TEARS 2024 Calendar. Order your copy today via the TEARS Online Shop. 100% of the income goes directly into supporting the TEARS Veterinary Hospital and Mobile Clinics as they provide a vital lifeline of support to pets and pet owners in need through critical rescue services, veterinary care, and pet food assistance.
The Season Of Giving
As we start to wrap up the year with gratitude, we’d like to invite you to consider setting up a recurring GIFT to TEARS by completing a monthly giving form.
A debit order, no matter how small, will make the BIGGEST difference over time by enabling TEARS to extend our impact and provide the extra pet food support, veterinary care, shelter, and rehabilitation services to help more animals in need.
You can help by donating R500 to pay for a spay, sponsoring tick and flea treatments, providing pet food support for vulnerable pets, or adopting a rescue dog or cat that will enable TEARS to give another ‘lost cause’, a lifechanging second chance. TEARS is currently over capacity as we have 338 animals in our care, excluding the 20-30 sick and injured animals that our Veterinary team treat daily. This means that we cannot admit any new admissions, until a space is made available through the adoption of rescue pets already in our care.
