Because I think I need to broaden my spectrum when it comes to the sports section on my blog, I have decided to do a sports wrap, instead of just focusing on articles based around football (my true passion). I think covering more sports, with a brief look at the top stories for the day in each, will be a better and more productive way to tackle this category! So here it goes, this is the first sports wrap on my blog and I hope you enjoy the new way I have decided to do it π
Please email me on dylan@campsbay.net, or, simply comment on this article if there are any sports that you think people may find interesting and would like me to cover. For example, naked female fencing. You get what I mean, something people don’t often hear about and may find extremely interesting π

Spurs Edge out European giants AC Milan to secure England’s first spot in the last 8 of the Champions League.
Tottenham Hotspur have reached the Quarter Finals of the UEFA Champions League in their debut season in the competition. They disposed of European giants AC Milan, after coming back to White Heart Lane with a 1 goal advantage. They played well and always looked like they had a chance of progressing, although I did think AC had a goal in them. It wasn’t to be and I can now only smile that one English side has made it to the last 8 of the World’s biggest club competition! COYS (Come On You Spurs)
My Cafe Caprice bra Yuvraj inspires India to a 5 wickets victory over WC minnows Netherlands.
Once again the legend I met at Caprice a few months back comes to the party for India. After India bowled the Dutch minnows out for just 189, Tendulkar set off with a very aggressive style only to sacrifice his wicket reasonably early on. When the little master doesn’t perform, I always look to Yuvraj to step up to the plate with a match winning performance. Chasing down low totals has been a bit of a problem in the ICC World Cup, as we saw with SA vs Eng just a few days ago! Yuvraj played a mature innings, making 51 off 73 balls, smashing 7seven 4’s along the way. My money is still on either India or South Africa to take this one home and I have been really impressed with both sides so far!
Tahir injury scare leaves SA with a big decision.
South Africa’s Pakistan born leg-spinner was dealt some bad news after the narrow 6 run loss to England just days ago. It appears that Tahir has sustained a chip fracture on his left thumb and has made himself available for the titanic battle that will be taking place against WC favourites India on Saturday. Tahir has been monumental since joining up with the National squad and ticks all the boxes that a spin bowlers needs to! I for one am a big fan and really hope he is still going to play a pivotal role in our quest for WC glory!
“The selection committee will decide whether that 10-day period will start before or after the game,” Mohammed Moosajee, the team manager said. “He will still be a part of the World Cup going forward.” Moosajee could not confirm when a final call will be taken on Tahir, saying that it may be “on the morning of the game”.
Tiger Woods admits he is almost ‘out of the rough’.
Tiger as you all know went through some extremely heavy shit when news of his various love affairs hit the tabloids. I have always been a follower of this genius golfers career and would love to see him back at his best, putting all the media issues behind him! It now seems that he may be getting closer to that form that once made him an unbeatable force in the worldwide golfing sphere.
Out of the rough, but into the bunker as he admits it has been hard to transfer the consistency of training over to the the big stage, the golf course! “I’m seeing some really good signs,” the world number five said on Wednesday, on the eve of the World Golf Championships Cadillac Championship at Doral.
Semenya to compete at Bellville Velodrome in 400m on Thursday night.
Caster Semenya has yet to rediscover her form that allowed her to become the 2009 IAAF World Champion in the 800m event. She now looks to the shorter 400m version of the race, in order to rediscover some of her pace and form that she once knew. With all the media problems that surrounded her gender it must have been hell for the poor athlete who was later cleared, and, allowed to compete on the International stage once again!
It will be interesting to see how she performs against some of South Africa’s top athletes including the likes of local runners Alet van Wyk, second quickest in SA over 400m last year, and Sonya van der Merwe, all of whom will give Semenya some tough competition.
In the male section, The ASA have put R5000 up for grabs in the the men’s mile event for the first person to break the 4 minute barrier, which has eluded the athletes…Until now!
FIFA launches match fixing probe after International frenzy on February 9th.
FIFA have launched an investigation which includes 6 match officials from a recent round of International friendlies including Bolivia vs Latvia & Estonia vs Bulgaria. A total of 7, yes 7 penalties were awarded in these 2 fixtures, which was bound to spark some controversy amongst the FIFA Board. I really despise the fact that it could play a part in ruining sporting events in the future. “The proceedings were opened following an evaluation of all documentation and information received by FIFA, in relation to a possible match-fixing situation in these matches,” FIFA said in a statement.
Ever wonder about those wrong off-side calls in the EPL? I know I do…
