Manchester United always try to incorporate a bit of history in their kit each year. Having overtaken Liverpool this season, winning their 19th domestic title, to become the most successful team in British domestic football history, this season is no different. They have mixed innovation with history to combine a new retro style kit for the upcoming season. They have left the collar behind and opted for something with a bit more MUFC tradition for this one. unveil
The innovation that caught me was the fact that each full kit is made from 13 recycled plastic water bottles! This is a first for United and I actually did an article on this Nike Better World campaign quite a few months ago. You can read a bit more about the recycling initiative here [Nike – Better World]. “This new manufacturing process reduces energy consumption by up to 30% compared to manufacturing traditional polyester and saves nearly 100 million plastic water bottles from being dumped at landfill sites.”
The body of the shirt is traditional red with a white crafted crew neck collar and central black stripe to replicate the design of the club’s retro bar scarf, which has previously appeared on the shirts worn by legendary United sides of the past, including the 1977 and 1985 FA Cup winners, and on the back of the shirts worn by the winners of the 2008 Barclay’s Premier League and UEFA Champions League. – ManUtd.com
Transfer Talk
Speculation this morning on Twitter is surrounding the man who is set to fill the void left by Edwin Van Der Sar next season, after the Dutch stopper has decided to step down after the Champions League Final! David De Gea is only 21 and already tipped to fill the number 1 spot at United for many years to come. I would have personally preferred Ajax stopper Martin Stekelenburg, although the Dutch stopper has started looking for a new club after he got news that his dream move to United was not going to happen!
