When will our goddamn woes end? We get the first drop in petrol price in ages a few weeks back and the whole Nation rejoices, only for the Rand to slump again hitting a four year low against the Dollar… The Rand is sitting approximately R9,70 today. It’s said to be suffering from the usual suspects such as concerns about labor unrest, poor economic conditions and sluggish growth (according to Currency strategist at Rand Merchant Bank, John Cairns).
This is the kind of thing that hammers our import sector with many products coming from the US, but more so for me the travel sector. I can’t even consider going near the United States with an exchange rate like this. I guess it will have to be Thailand next June, but even there our Rand against the Baht is around 1-3… Sigh!
Where are some other sick holiday destinations where the Rand can get us some decent hang time in paradise. I know Greece is pretty affordable at the moment with their political crap going on. Let me know?
