Packed into three days Theewaterskloof, less than an hour outside of The Mother City, welcomes back the annual pilgrimage and much-loved institution that is SYNERGY LIVE 2014! Friday 28, through Sunday 30 November 2014 is when 13 international headliners, a colossal line-up of SA bands, live acts, comedians and electronic artists descend, delight and dissolve into all things festive.
In the midst of its open-air hub of rising stars and seasoned headliners, SYNERGY LIVE 2014 is set to pop, and go down as your best weekend ever! But what exactly separates this life-affirming entertainment extravaganza from everything else out there? Variety, quality and quintessential originality – all of which punters are known to travel far and globally wide to confirm.
As with any respected major festival, anywhere on the planet, the Main Stage is what excites the imagination long before the three-day weekend reveal unwinds. SYNERGY LIVE 2014 knows and swears by theirs, if only because it’s not merely a stage, it’s the festival self-proclaimed home made up of an extraordinary audio visual production and showcasing a world-class line up of bands, acts and artists. The big names will blow you away, but look out for future superheroes earning their stripes. It’s a full widescreen HD experience that forms the on-going soundtrack to a spectacular weekend in the sun and between the stars. SYNERGY LIVE 2014’s Main Stage wishes to count as the one playing the right tunes at the right time. All you have to do is turn up!
Add the Red Bull Studio Live experience to what’s patently apparent, even before the beats bleed out, is every style of music will get a look and listen in at SYNERGY LIVE 2014. With Red Bull commissioned and conscripted to deliver the finest Electronica, made up of drum and bass, dubstep, deep and tech house, blended into a background filled with techno and trance and what’s assured is you’ll be reaching for an ice-cold can between their impressive beats per minute delivery. Featuring International Headliners – Congorock, Felix Cartal, S.P.Y, Egbert & Secret Cinema.
Diversity is the guaranteed constant, on tap, at SYNERGY LIVE 2014, and in order to reinforce that ideology the electronic music fraternity will happily acknowledge and support the Sirius Sunday Electronic Music Experience. The nine-hour electronic music party, from the likes of international acts Captain Hook, right through Atmos and Mindwave, each will drop the punchiest bass lines and most hypnotic rhythms turning the world on right now.
Add the ERA Beach Club, with mandatory sarongs, cocktails and a collection of deep house and techno, and what’s sure to ensue is a party of epic proportion. Dished up by Cape Town’s CBD of dance, ERA, together with their whole crew and fiery foursome of international cameo acts – Stimming, Ron Costa, Lake People and DJ Anna – ERA Beach Club looks set to be the perfect go between stages, The Market Place, The Traders Square and your tent or boutique-styled outdoor glamper’s investment in Heartbreak Motel luxury. For less than two bars you and your significant other can bed down, shower up and sleep soundly in a tent already pitched before you arrive. Fresh linen and 24-hour security makes perfect sense if you’re looking for a pampered party solution.
Remember though, accommodation and festival tickets are sold separately. And for laughs? Look no further than The Comedy Club, the laughter zone. With its non-stop daily stand-up makes for a welcome respite between sets from some of the biggest names in music today. Between sets explore the various activation areas peppered all around SYNERGY LIVE 2014. There’ll be lounges, bars, promo girls, drinks and competitions to enter and win, that will feed and leave you repleat – ready for more high-grade entertainment. Bring a bank card, rather than wads of cash as there’ll be ATMs on site too. The My Music Matrix Team make a welcome return to SYNERGY LIVE 2014 too, bringing with them all the essential oils and ingredients to satify your retail therapy wants. From T-shirts to CDs, and everything in-between, you’ll get to wear your memories, quite literally on your sleeve, long after you’ve made the trek home from one of the most beautifully placed man-made entertaiment experiences ever.
Where:
Theewater Sports Club. Theewaterskloof Dam. Villiersdorp Theewater Sport Club, is situated on a peninsula stretching into the Theewaterskloof dam, surrounded by farmlands, majestic mountains and a variety of wildlife. The Dam itself is beautifully set, between Franschhoek and Villiersdorp, about an hour and a half out of Cape Town, and boasts some of the most picturesque vistas in the Western Cape. With the establishment of the Theewater Sports Club (TSC) in 1979, the dam has grown to become one of the largest water sports clubs in the South Africa and features all kind of activities including keelboat, multihull and dinghy sailing, power boating, jet skiing, water skiing, kite surfing, windsurfing and fresh water bass and carp angling.
Directions:
From Cape Town, proceed east on the N2 for about 68km (past Somerset West and over Sir Lowrys Pass). Exit the N2 left at the R321/Grabouw off-ramp onto the R321. Proceed on the R321 heading towards Villiersdorp (the R321 becomes the R45 and you drive over the dam). About 1km before Villiersdorp, exit the R45 right onto the R43. (only travel for 100m or so) Take your first right onto Old Caledon Road. Drive down to the end of the road and you will see the Sports Club on your right hand side. Festival Check List:
Our best advice: just bring what you need. No, really, we mean it: pack light. Depending where you park, you’ll inevitably have to carry your stuff a fair distance to where you camp so leave the acoustic guitar and kitchen sink to someone else. And as part of our ‘leave no trace’ initiative we’d definitely encourage you to only bring things which you can take home. Remember, ‘Less is Best!’ Also remember to keep all valuables on your person at all times, while every care is taken, theft from campsites is a reality.
Cash and cards:
The motto still holds: cash is king and plastic fantastic. We’ll have ATM machines on-site, but if you want to avoid paying pesky transaction fees and standing in queues, rather bring enough cash to last the weekend. There will also be credit & debit card facilities at the main and electronic stage bars, but remember, food and trade vendors generally only accept cash.
Toilets and showers:
This year at Synergy Live we’ve gone above and beyond in making sure your festival experience is an easy one – and that includes yet again increasing the number of toilet and shower facilities. As always, they’ll be tended to by our support staff to ensure they’re clean and tidy 24/3.
Public safety services:
To ensure everyone is safe and sound, Synergy-designated paramedics, security and firefighting crews will be on hand around the clock for the duration of the festival. In the event of an emergency please alert a Synergy Live or security official immediately.
Water points:
The Theewaterskloof dam might be the main water supply for Cape Town, however the water in the dam is not fit for drinking unless you are a fish or a freak. Look out for the green water towers with taps located around the festival site to provide fresh water for drinking or the designated safe to drink points in the permanent bathroom facilities. Bottled water will also be available at all bars. Synergy Live requires hundreds of thousands of litres of water over a period of three days. Please use water sparingly.
Traders
Applications to trade at Synergy Live 2014 are still open. If you are interested in trading please email stalls@synergylive.co.za. Dozens of food traders, arts & craft merchants and peddlers of the bizarre and unique apply to trade at Synergy each year. Each stall is priced individually, based on the type of organisation, the number of staff, the size of stall, the products being sold and so on. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate everyone, but we do try and give our patrons the very best variety possible.
Lost property
All lost property can be reported, dropped off or collected from the Production Office, just off the main tar road, by the toilet / shower block. Please report any theft or suspicious activity to the on-site security officers or the SA Police services on duty.
